“Surprise me.”

That’s what sushi foodies tell Fontana Sushi Chef Danny Niu, putting full faith in his special rolls, often creations not on the menu. Leave it to the chef to give you a surprise to your liking.

A cold sake in hand and fresh sushi rolls at the table—summer is here. At Fontana Sushi, the special is 2 for 1 beers all day long, all summer long. Providing free delivery within a three-mile radius, the restaurant is located on the bustling corner of Logan Street and Alameda Avenue amongst Denver’s young and active neighborhoods, nestled between Capitol Hill and Wash Park.

And they fit right in.

The restaurant’s modern lighting and decor are inviting with a number of fish tanks scattered throughout the space. The sushi bar invites singles and couples to enjoy a front row seat of the sushi-rolling action.

Chef Niu, a Chinese immigrant who worked his way through the best of Tokyo’s sushi restaurants from a student to a sushi chef, is skilled enough to stand in the sushi bars of Tokyo. He brings to Colorado the experiences of Tokyo’s sushi bars that are artfully reflected in his creations.

The spectacular presentation of each roll is met with satisfaction by the fresh and flavorful tastes. The seafood salad, consisted of white tuna, super white tuna, shrimp and veggies is a great way to start your meal. The spicy tuna salad comes on crispy lettuce leaves served with seaweed and mango on top, while the Mantis and Manhattan are both special rolls created with sauces infused making the side of soy sauce and wasabi unnecessary.

Fontana offers traditional Japanese party rooms seating 12—on the floor. The area is divided by paper windows and guests must take their shoes off to enter.

Opened now for eight years, don’t miss the specials written on the white board that continue to change. Roll lunches are offered at an affordable price of $9.95 for three rolls (18 pieces). Order off the menu, or be adventurous and let Chef Niu intrigue your palate.
