ARCINDA (The Arts & Culture of Indonesia) presented a unique show on September 23 at History Colorado Museum. Didik Nini Thowok, a multi-talented and multicultural artist from Indonesia, performed for the Colorado crowd. He is a dancer, traditional singer, comedian and cultural educator with an international reputation and has performed throughout the world in places such as America, Asia, Europe, Australia, and other countries. He has been in America a few times to perform with different organizations and also teaches at several universities in America.

This time, his performance was accompanied by ARCINDA (the Arts & Culture of Indonesia), who performed live Indonesian music such as gamelan (brass xylophone percussion) with I Made Lasmawan as gamelan master. Arcinda’s gamelan, “Ki Brojo Marto” is founded by M. Lasmawan and A. Pelletier. Several other cultural performances were also presented to reflect the ultimate diversity of Indonesia.
Didik Nini Thowok’s Mask Dance represents different character acts depending on the type of the mask the dancer is wearing. The type of music is also different to follow each act. The mask dance represents international characters from different countries—American. Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, etc. So, it is a unique multi-cultural environment that can attract more audiences from different cultures in a broad community.
